Portrait series @ Columbia First Fridays

  • Finishing Touch Barber Shop 809 Woodland Street Columbia, TN, 38401 United States (map)

This is an artful and community-based project documenting the residents of Maury County, Tennessee.

The idea of featuring the everyday person is a powerful and engaging way to illustrate our most collective connection: our common ground.

This is a yearbook-type event. Participants will fill out a short form about themselves and their community followed by a brief portrait sitting (digital and film formats) with photographer Sarah B. Gilliam. Each person will be given a digital image, the photographer will keep an image and the original negatives will be donated to the Maury County Archives when the series is complete.*

By agreeing to be photographed, participants also agree to allow their portrait to be used (model release) in digital and print platforms for the purpose of advertising without any financial gain.

This is a voluntary collaboration, though donations to help fund this project no matter the amount, is greatly appreciated and will help sustain this effort as a record of our community.

What to expect:

Please come as you are- whether it’s covered in paint, wearing your favorite outfit, behind your instrument, holding something important to your process. However props are not necessary as the goal of this project is to present a portrait as a marker to this time in history. Everyone is welcome, and I look forward to staying connected after our shoot.

This month’s series will be held on the square in Columbia during First Fridays September 5-7 pm.

Look for me in a white tent- I’ll be holding a camera. ;) I’ll be posting updates on exactly location as we get closer to the date!
