Clare Pinney (center, green wool jacket and hat) is the huntsman for Cedar Knob Hounds. Her grandfather was a huntsman and father was a whipper-in (assistant to the huntsman) in their native England. During the hunt, the actual hunting revolves around her. She is responsible for the hunt day’s course and the hounds. Huntsmen care for, train and hunt and show the hounds. The more than 30 Cedar Knob hounds respond to the her voice and horn. She also manages the barn- cleaning stalls, feeding and watering, administers basic veterinary care and exercising 5-7 horses daily. The hunt season lasts from October to March.
